The best vega-spots in Alkmaar
In the second week of March it's the National Week without Meat. A great opportunity to make a list of Alkmaar's hotspots where you can enjoy delicious vegetarian food. Because enjoying vegetarian food, there’s plenty of that to do in Alkmaar!
It is one of the newest hotspots in our “Cheese City”: restaurant Uit India on the cosy Houttil, with the Waagplein just around the corner. They serve authentic Indian dishes, prepared exclusively with vegetarian ingredients. You can go for traditional Indian cuisine, but you can also find trendy and modern dishes on the menu. They also create all their own masalas (spice mixes).

Organic, vegetarian and in many cases even vegan. That is SOEPP, on the cosy Hekelstraat in the Oude Stad (older part of the city). And, as the name suggests: this is the place for a delicious bowl of soup. But it doesn't stop there: Soup also sells salads, vegetarian burgers or a tasty, spicy curry. A nice detail! Soepp is filled with second-hand stuff, and everything is for sale. The seats you sit on, the lights on the ceiling. The interior therefore changes regularly. That is worth a visit alone.

For many Alkmaarders it is a well-known place in the Oude Stad (the older part of the city). For more than 50 years there has been a greengrocer on the corner of Fnidsen and Hekelstraat. Here you not only get fresh fruit and vegetables, but also smoothies, soups, salads, stews and delicious lasagne.

“Eat, drink & relax” is the motto of Rotisserie 't IJkgebouw. And you will certainly be able to do these three things well in this beautiful, historic building. In the restaurant they have a traditional, distinctive kitchen with a broad, healthy assortment. All vegetarian options are clearly indicated on the menu. For example, try the Japanese pancake or couscous salad. When the weather is nice, you can really enjoy the spacious terrace. Let the spring come!
